Emergency/Weather Closing Procedures

Emergency or Weather-Related School Closing Procedures

In the event that school has been closed due to weather conditions or other emergency situation, P.S.30x Wilton will follow the protocol below.

P.S.30x Wilton is a NYC Department of Education public school, and any announcement regarding the status of NYC public schools applies to P.S. 30x.

Checking For School Closings

Local Media

Local media is the fastest way to get information on school closings. P.S.30x Wilton faculty, staff, and administration learn about closings at the same time as the general public.

The most rapid announcements are made on news radio, either at WINS 1010 AM or WCBS 880 AM. Other radio stations include WLIB (1190 AM), WADO (1280 AM), WBLS (107.5 FM), WNYE (91.5 FM). You can also check local television by watching WCBS (Channel 2), WNBC (Channel 4), WNYW (Fox Channel 5), WABC (Channel 7), Univision Channel 41, Bronx 12 (Optimum), and NY1 (Time Warner).

Calling the School

You can call P.S.30x wilton at (718) 292-8817 and hear a message regarding school closure. The school's phone system will have a recording only if there is a confirmed closing.

NYC Department of Education Website

The NYC Department of Education website at http://schools.nyc.gov/default.htm will post any school closing information. The NYCDOE website generally is only updated if there is a confirmed closing, and often is not immediately updated.

Calling 311

You can call 311 (or visit the 311 website) to see if New York City public schools are closed. If you are outside of the NY Metro area, call 212-NEW-YORK.
